Summer Williams of Hirsch Bedner Associates attended HI DESIGN EMEA 2008 in Prague. She came across luxury linen company Upline from Turkey. “At a huge exhibition, I may not have had the chance to explore such a product, so I was happy to see something new and fresh!

Summer had a meeting scheduled with them and as luck would have it, was seated at the same table at the farewell dinner. “We just seemed to hit it off - their products were great and they are such nice people. We’re looking to use Upline’s range of towels at a luxury pool in a resort we’ve developed.”

“What’s special about this event is that you really have the chance to get one to one with people you may not have had a chance to know otherwise. As designers, our lives tend to get quite hectic - HI Design is an effective yet pleasant way to take in things in more detail and learn about what the suppliers are actually capable of doing for you.”

HI DESIGN is also an excellent place to open up relationships whether they are old or new. On receiving her meetings itinerary Summer realised she was scheduled to meet art consulting firm Soho Myriad. Ironically, she used to work with them quite frequently when in America. I remember thinking "How crazy!! What are they doing in Prague? It's such a small world! We had a great time reconnecting.” Soho Myriad are opening up a London location and through their relationship have now made several presentations to the office as a whole allowing further potential for artwork placement within other projects.

Also, a fellow HBA colleague from the Dubai office was attending HI DESIGN giving them the chance to meet. “Since our organization is global, it's difficult (perhaps impossible) to know everyone who works for HBA. It was a great opportunity to spend time and get to know my colleague.”
